John 10:14
I Have a Shepherd
Ever been labeled a “sheep”? Most people would take offense. Not me.
You know, a sheep is a follower. She goes with the flow, is easily spooked even in a flock, seems to have very little mind of her own. They need a herd to be happy. So many of us are like that — each new trend or fad comes along and away we go. Hear a rumor of how bad things are and we are in a panic. Each new cure, remedy, diet fad, or fancy new car and we are on it, rushing with the herd to be the first to obtain that new prize.
I have a Shepherd. Someone I can keep my eyes on, follow, trust. I know his voice. He leads me, protects me, and when I have strayed he comes to find me. The ONLY time I am going to panic is if HE does — and he has never, ever not been in control. No panic. No indecision. No false moves. No taking me through dangerous places that he has not already made safe. When the Shepherd is out front leading the way, I know that I am exactly where I am supposed to be — safe under his care and guidance.
The only time it’s bad to be a sheep is when you are not guided by the right Shepherd.
Mine is faithful, kind, and compassionate. He finds me, picks me up, and carries me back to his side when I am lost.
Who is shepherding your life? Is it the talking heads on the TV, or Facebook, or a political party? Are you running after the newest fad, the newest “new” thing? Make sure your eyes are on the one Shepherd who will never lead you astray.
Don’t have a good Shepherd? I know mine is always looking for one more. May I introduce the two of you?
John 10 — it’s a good place to start.
Love, Pam
