John 6:29
What Would It Take?
What would it take for you to believe that Jesus was who he said he was? Really believe.
I believe the sun will come up this morning. I believe the seasons will change. I believe that life will come to an end someday. I can see those things happening with my own eyes, day after day. I am not a trusting person. Seeing is believing, as the old saying goes.
What miracle would it take for us to drop all of our doubts and be all in — fiercely assured that he is what he says he is? I know most of you will immediately take umbrage: of course you truly believe! How dare I ask that question! I believe that you believe that we believe. But do our lives reflect that belief? On the daily, do we go about our day reflecting it? Belief causes a change in what and who we are and how we face today. The beliefs we hold show up in ways we are not even aware of sometimes — in our attitudes, our priorities, our speech, our life choices, the way we dress, the places we go. When we believe, we change. It seems to happen without us even noticing most days.
When Jesus began teaching the people, they immediately wanted to see signs and wonders — miracles, supernatural proof of who he was. He tells them that the work of God is that they believe — trust, adhere to, rely on, have faith in — the one God sent. John 6:29. That should have been enough.
Do we still ask for signs and miracles to fully believe? I think sometimes we do. Our heart knows, but our head wants to see.
My prayer is that instead of looking for — needing — the miraculous, I keep my eyes on the wonder of Jesus. I’ve seen the miraculous things that Jesus does. I know because I was there. I was, I am the miracle — forever changed by his “follow me.”
Take a look in the mirror. If you are a true believer, you have already seen a miracle or two yourself.
To God be the glory — great things he has done.
Love, Pam
